Once inside…there’s no way out
A fate worse than death…
A fate worse than death…
DI Murphy and DS Rossi discover the body of known troublemaker Dean Hughes, dumped on the steps of St Mary’s Church in West Derby, Liverpool. His body is covered with the unmistakable marks of torture.
As they hunt for the killer, they discover a worrying pattern. Other teenagers, all young delinquents, have been disappearing without a trace.
Who is clearing the streets of Liverpool?
Where are the other missing boys being held?
And can Murphy and Rossi find them before they meet the same fate as Dean?
Having read Luca Veste's first book Dead Gone, I jumped at the opportunity to read The Dying Place too. I just hoped it was as good as Dead Gone..............it was even better and Dead Gone was fantastic! This book also features DI Murphy and DS Rossi but its not necessary to have read Dead Gone first as The Dying Place can be read as a standalone novel.
The Dying Place is a gripping book and a real page turner! I could not put it down. From the very beginning, I was drawn into the story. Luca Veste has a writing style that gets right down to the nitty-gritty of modern day life in Britain. Set in Liverpool where crime and unemployment are prevalent. Teenage boys from the wrong side of town.......no-hopers without a future and falling into a life of unemployment and crime are kidnapped and brought to 'The Farm' for an extreme form of behaviour modification. The lesson? To teach them the errors of their ways and become better people and more useful to society. However, the brutality involved has serious consequences for all when one of the boys is found dead outside a church. Murphy and Rossi are tasked with finding out exactly who was responsible for the crime. They soon find out that this is no ordinary murder and is not gang related as first suspected.
Murphy and Rossi make an amazing crime fighting duo with a fantastic rapport and I'd love to see these books made into a tv series. Without a doubt, Luca Veste is now the big name in crime fiction! I will continue to follow his career with interest. Highly recommended. A fantastic read!
The book is available in ebook, paperback and audiobook!
