Perfiditas by Alison Morton - Guest Post and Giveaway!

Posted on 23:12 by Unknown

Brook Cottage Books is so happy to have Alison Morton back on the blog. Back in April, Alison introduced herself as a new author with her first book in the Roma Nova thriller series, INCEPTIO. So what’s been happening since? I'll let Alison tell you all.

Hi, JB, thanks for having me on your blog today. It’s been hectic! INCEPTIO won a cover competition, was shortlisted for the International Rubery Book Award, has been awarded the B.R.A.G. MedallionTM and gathered great reviews on Amazon UK and US as well as Goodreads. Even more important, the readers have said they love it!

So no pressure on me for the second in series, PERFIDITAS, out tomorrow.

This new book follows the adventures of Carina whom we met in INCEPTIO. Rebellion and betrayal are in the air, and then it gets personal…

Captain Carina Mitela of the Praetorian Guard Special Forces is in trouble – one colleague has tried to kill her and another has set a trap to incriminate her in a conspiracy to topple the government of Roma Nova. Founded sixteen hundred years ago by Roman dissidents and ruled by women, Roma Nova barely survived a devastating coup d’état thirty years ago. Carina swears to prevent a repeat and not merely for love of country.
Seeking help from a not quite legal old friend could wreck her marriage to the enigmatic Conrad. Once proscribed and operating illegally, she risks being terminated by both security services and conspirators. As she struggles to overcome the desperate odds and save her beloved Roma Nova and her own life, she faces the ultimate betrayal…

Some kind words about PERFIDITAS…
“Alison Morton has built a fascinating, exotic world! Carina’s a bright, sassy detective with a winning dry sense of humour. There are a fair number of alternative historical fictions where Rome never disappeared, but for my money this is one of the better ones.” Simon Scarrow, author of the Eagle (Macro and Cato) series of Roman novels
“I hugely enjoyed this second thriller in Alison Morton’s trilogy. Roma Nova is a beguilingly convincing fictional empire where strong, intelligent women rule. With complex and clever plots, the scenes and characterisation are so vividly described that I felt I was watching a movie in my mind.”  Sue Cook, writer and broadcaster

“I can’t resist an alternative history and Alison Morton writes one of the best. Powerful storytelling, vivid characters and a page-turning plot makes Alison Morton’s PERFIDITAS a must read.” Jean Fullerton, author of the historical East London novels

And I’ve had fun making a book trailer for PERFIDITAS which readers say is very exciting.
PERFIDITAS is available online in Kindle and paperback from your local Amazon, http://viewbook.at/PERFIDITAS and in EPUB from other online retailers, or you can order the paperback from your local bookshop.  Ditto for the first in series, INCEPTIO - the Amazon link is http://viewBook.at/B00BMU5OW6

In the meantime, I have an e-copy or signed paperback of PERFIDITAS to giveaway to one blog reader. So, leave a comment and your name will be drawn out of JB’s lucky hat! – good luck to everybody!

Thank you so much Alison!!

STOP PRESS!!!  PERFIDITAS Kindle version will be on 50% special publication offer price £1.49/$1.55, until 23rd October.

About the author

Alison Morton grew up in South-East England. She completed a BA in French, German and Economics and thirty years later a MA in History. She now lives in France with her husband.

A ‘Roman nut’ since age 11, she has visited sites throughout Europe including the alma mater, Rome. But it was walking on the mosaics at Ampurias (Spain) that triggered her wondering what a modern Roman society would be like if run by women...

Playing around with words much of her life, particularly as a local magazine editor and professional translator, she came to novel writing in reaction to a really dire film:

'I could do better that that,' she whispered in the darkened cinema.

'So why don't you?' replied her other half.

Three months later, she had completed the first draft of INCEPTIO which was published in March 2013.
